LIVING ROOM - DESIGN, LAYOUT AND FINISHING TOUCHES

This clients living room lacked personality. It provided her with no energy set under several layers of cream. Two dark timber ceiling beams plagued the room, visually enclosing the space and lowering the perceived ceiling height. On a strict budget we needed to work with the existing furniture however she was happy for us to address the layout to allow for more of a conversation zone.

The brief was to address the layout of the living area and introduce colour using existing furnishings. I began with a new floor plan to address the flow of the room and created a focal point with the clients existing wingbacked chair. Other colour inspiration came from the gorgeous gardens surrounding the home which the wallpaper I selected would compliment.

The beams on the original ceiling were painted out white which instantly lifted the ceiling height making the room feel bigger.

A feature wall and new window treatments were added, including sun filter blinds to protect the room from the harsh sun.

Smaller items such as the rug, cushions, side tables and lamps were selected as stronger pops of colour combining the clever use of pastels and brights together.
